Supporting Complex Teaching Environments at Scale
At the University of Oxford’s new Life and Mind Building (LaMB), Aura delivered a coordinated AV solution across teaching, laboratory and collaboration spaces. Designed to support hybrid learning, lecture capture and specialist teaching, the project creates a seamless user experience throughout one of the University’s most ambitious academic developments.
Consistent user experience across diverse room types
Business Challenge
Supporting teaching across lecture theatres, seminar rooms, computer labs, wet laboratories and meeting spaces required an AV solution capable of delivering a consistent and intuitive experience despite the differing demands of each environment. At the same time, the system needed to support hybrid learning, lecture capture and specialist teaching capabilities without adding complexity for staff and students.
The challenge extended beyond creating a seamless user experience. Much of the building’s infrastructure had already been defined before AV requirements were finalised, introducing constraints around connectivity, device deployment and system integration. Delivering a solution that performed reliably within these limitations required careful coordination throughout the design and delivery process.
Working alongside the University and project partners, Aura needed to balance technical performance with operational simplicity, creating an AV environment that could support modern teaching today while remaining flexible for the future.
The success of this project demonstrates the strength of our relationship with Aura. Despite significant challenges, they were able to understand our needs to develop and install an AV system that exactly meets the requirements of this flagship teaching and research building and which is already providing an aspirational standard for the rest of the University.

Solution
Working in partnership with Hewshott and the University of Oxford, Aura delivered a coordinated AV solution that provides a consistent experience across teaching, laboratory and collaboration spaces, while accommodating the specific requirements of each environment.
Hybrid learning and lecture capture were integrated throughout key teaching spaces, enabling flexible participation for students and guest contributors, while specialist solutions were developed to support more interactive teaching within laboratory environments. Across every room, the focus remained on intuitive operation, allowing teaching staff to deliver sessions without the distraction of complex technology.
Throughout the project, Aura worked collaboratively with the wider delivery team to refine the design as the building evolved, overcoming infrastructure constraints without compromising performance or usability. The result is a future-ready AV environment that supports modern teaching, collaboration and research while providing a seamless experience for users across the entire building.
